Technology.... Here to stay! Time to Explore!

Being in a self contained Autism classroom, most of my students are focusing on learning life skills and educational strategies at the same time. I created a lesson plan that focused on helping students master spelling and identifying a certain color. Seesaw and Spelling City were extremely helpful tools is helping me, help my students master these objectives. Seesaw allowed me to use activities already created about specific colors, while also creating my own end of unit assessment. Students were able to work one on one on their own device. My students love being on their device and find joy in learning that integrates technology.  Technology comes in many shapes and sizes with many different purposes. Before this class I had a very limited amount of resources. Google classroom, kahoot, and blooket were my go to activities for students to use. Since taking this class I have explored many more sites that students love and really enhance their learning. This class has allowed me to ...

Chatting online and in the classroom

ChatGPT I chose to evaluate the tool ChatGPT as I have never heard of it before, and I wanted to compare it to the well known google add on pear deck. I found that this tool allows for critical thinking skills to be used frequently on the site. Students have a topic or question in mind and use this tool to find answers or more information requiring them to be engaged and active in researching. I feel that the website alone limits students creativity as the information is already shared with them, however this would be the perfect extension to a project. Students can take the information and present it in a creative way with their peers and teachers. I scored this low due to the fact that the tool itself does not promote the creative piece, the teacher or student would have to come up with that assignment or task. ChatGPT is a great tool for students to look up topic of interest that meet their individual interests and needs. This site does not allow comments or profiles for stude...

Is Technology Hurting or Helping Your Students Learn?

When creating my rubric I had the idea in mind to keep it simple so that it could be used with any technological tool. I also wanted to make it specific and measurable which is why I included the percentages in each box. These processes can be checked formally and informally in many ways by the evaluator and or students using the tool.  Ensuring the framework follow the four C's, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication is key to a successful curriculum evaluation.  A curriculum that does a proper job in critical thinking skills will encourage students to determine if information is factual or not. This can be done by spending time online or asking "why" in every day life (Stauffer, 2021). Often times when one thinks about being creative they think about art projects, drawing, and other visual projects. Believe it or not students can learn to be creative when they have the proper resources. This can be done by solving problems, creating systems, or ...

Technology for Teachers

The first source I chose was Forbes discussing remote learning. Next I chose Kitaboo discussing gamification and AR and VR. E-learning also discussed the trend of animation and finally I chose F Learning Studio to discuss STEAM. Remote learning is a topic that impacted me directly as my first year teaching we never returned to in person class after spring break. Gamification sounds like a great way to increase student participation and create a buy in. My previous district had VR simulation machines for health and engineering topics, however I never used them as no training was provided and I felt uncomfortable. Digging into this topic interests me. STEM has always been a hot topic in schools and I have seen it provided as a special, adding Art and creating STEAM is a great way for students to express themselves in another way. I look forward to learning ways to incorporate this into the classroom. The platforms I chose are Facebook, Pintrest, Zoom, YouTube, and Google. I follow...
